Parowan residents found meadows next to Red Creek that provided ideal locations for farming. The settlement was first known as Red Creek, but the name was later changed to Paragoonah and then Paragonah. There are conflicting sources as to the name's precise meaning, but it is of Southern Paiute origin and apparently is a reference to the red color of the water found in the area. Paragonah was incorporated as a town in 1916. ==See also== Utah * List of cities and towns in Utah ==References== 22em ==Sources== * Seegmiller, Janet Burton, A History of Iron County (1998) ==External links== Paragonah, Utah authority control
