As of the census<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 25,065 people, 10,242 households, http://www.city-data.com/city/Opportunity-Washington.html#top and 6,667 families residing in the CDP. The population density was {{Convert|3,746.8|/sqmi|/km2|1}}. There were 10,827 housing units at an average density of {{Convert|1,618.5|/sqmi|/km2|1}}. The racial makeup of the CDP was 93.52% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1.01% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 1.01% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 1.29% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.10% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.63% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 2.45% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 2.67% of the population.

There were 10,242 households, out of which 31.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.7% were married couples living together, 12.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.9% were non-families. 28.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.95.

In the CDP, the age distribution of the population shows 25.7% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.4 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $38,658, and the median income for a family was $44,230. Males had a median income of $35,435 versus $25,860 for females.
