The community lies near the center of the reservation of the federally recognized [[Oneida Nation of Wisconsin]], for which it is named.

According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the CDP has a total area of {{convert|5.7|mi2|km2}}, of which, {{convert|5.7|mi2|km2}} of it is land and {{convert|0.1|mi2|km2}} of it (1.05%) is water.

==Demographics==

As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 1,070 people, 359 households, and 250 families residing in the CDP. The [[population density]] was {{convert|189.3|/mi2|/km2|disp=preunit|people&nbsp;|people|}}. There were 383 housing units at an average density of {{convert|67.7|/mi2|/km2|disp=preunit|units&nbsp;|units|}}. The racial makeup of the CDP was 31.03% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.28% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 65.89% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.09% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.09% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.28% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 2.34% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 3.36% of the population. At 55.23% Iroquois, Oneida is the most Iroquois town in the United States.

There were 359 households, out of which 37.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.0% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 16.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.1% were non-families. 25.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.98 and the average family size was 3.62.

In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 35.2% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 21.0% from 45 to 64, and 10.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females, there were 88.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.8 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $31,588, and the median income for a family was $35,288. Males had a median income of $29,079 versus $21,983 for females. The [[per capita income]] for the CDP was $13,766. About 18.3% of families and 18.5% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 19.8% of those under age 18 and 47.8% of those age 65 or over.
