==History==
Oakland was the first city to be placed on the state's historic register, in May 1968. The city's two-block [[business district]] consists of the original brick buildings built in the 1880s and 1890s. The [[population density]] was {{convert|1269.9|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|1}}. There were 412 housing units at an average density of {{convert|564.4|/sqmi|/km2|1}}. The racial makeup of the city was 94.2% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.1% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 1.4% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.3% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 1.2% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 2.8% from two or more races. The racial makeup of the city was 93.82% White, 0.21% African American, 1.99% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.21% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.10% from other races, and 3.56% from two or more races. 3.35% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 377 households, out of which 34.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.7% were married couples living together, 9.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.8% were non-families. 23.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.06.

In the city, the population was spread out, with 26.5% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 24.4% from 25 to 44, 26.0% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.0 males.
