==Geography==
Oak City is in northwestern Martin County, at the junction of state highways [[North Carolina Highway 125|125]] and [[North Carolina Highway 11|11]]/[[North Carolina Highway 42|42]]. Highway 125 leads southeast {{convert|18|mi}} to [[Williamston, North Carolina|Williamston]], the [[county seat]], and northwest {{convert|7|mi|0}} to [[Hobgood, North Carolina|Hobgood]], while Highways 11 and 42 lead northeast {{convert|14|mi}} to [[Lewiston Woodville, North Carolina|Lewiston Woodville]]. To the southwest, Highway 11 leads {{convert|12|mi}} to [[Bethel, North Carolina|Bethel]], while Highway 42 leads {{convert|15|mi}} to [[Conetoe, North Carolina|Conetoe]]. The racial makeup of the town was 52.51% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 45.72% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.29% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 1.18% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.29% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.18% of the population.

There were 144 households, out of which 22.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.1% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 15.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.8% were non-families. 36.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 22.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
