==Historical development==
Initially called ''Congreve Station'', this location was a stop on the [[Texas and New Orleans Railroad]] in the early 1860s. The name for the town came from the influx of people due to the discovery of [[oil]] in the early 1900s (similar to the gold strikes at [[Nome, Alaska]]), hence the name became ''Nome'' in 1903.<ref>[https://tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/hln23 TSHA Online - Texas State Historical Association<!-- Bot generated title -->]</ref> Although rice farming would still be the foremost activity of the town, the discovery of [[natural gas]] and oil would create a new industry for the region in 1936. As of the [[2020 United States census]], there were 469 people, 233 households, and 195 families residing in the city.

As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2010, there were 588 people, 196 households, and 140 families residing in the city. The population density was {{convert|413.8|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 205 housing units at an average density of {{convert|164.7|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the city was 71.65% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 27.18% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.19% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.97% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 2.52% of the population.

There were 196 households, out of which 32.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.6% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.1% were non-families. 26.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.21.

In the city, the population was spread out, with 28.0% under the age of 18, 10.5% from 18 to 24, 23.3% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median income for a household in the city was $30,833, and the median income for a family was $41,346. Males had a median income of $31,875 versus $23,125 for females.
