The [[population density]] was {{convert|302.5|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|1}}. There were 195 housing units at an average density of {{convert|124.2|/sqmi|/km2|1}}. The racial makeup of the city was 97.3% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.6% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.8% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.2% [[Race (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], and 1.1% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]]. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 2.3% of the population.

There were 179 households, of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 74.3% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 2.8% had a female householder with no husband present, 2.8% had a male householder with no wife present, and 20.1% were non-families. 17.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. There were 44 households, out of which 31.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.7% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 9.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.2% were non-families. 15.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.82 and the average family size was 3.17.

In the city the population was spread out, with 25.8% under the age of 18, 4.0% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 31.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 93.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.4 males.

New Melle is in the Francis Howell School District. Elementary school students attend Daniel Boone Elementary, middle school students attend Francis Howell Middle School, and high school students attend [[Francis Howell High School]].
