According to the [[United States Census Bureau|U.S. Census Bureau]], the township has a total area of {{convert|35.43|sqmi|sqkm|2}}, of which {{convert|35.15|sqmi|sqkm|2}} is land and {{convert|0.28|sqmi|sqkm|2}} (0.79%) is water.

The headwaters for the south branch of the [[Kalamazoo River]] begin in the southern portion of the township.

==Demographics==
As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 1,445 people, 522 households, and 410 families residing in the township.  The population density was {{convert|41.1|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  There were 554 housing units at an average density of 15.8 per square mile (6.1/km{{sup|2}}).  The racial makeup of the township was 98.41% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.62% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.07% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.28% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.14% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.07% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.42% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 0.97% of the population.

There were 522 households, out of which 36.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.6% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 6.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.3% were non-families. 17.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.  The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.10.

In the township the population was spread out, with 27.7% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 25.0% from 45 to 64, and 11.1% who were 65 years of age or older.  The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 104.7 males.  For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 105.7 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $44,740, and the median income for a family was $49,464. Males had a median income of $36,705 versus $25,714 for females. The [[per capita income]] for the township was $18,682.  About 2.7% of families and 4.2% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 3.0% of those under age 18 and 3.7% of those age 65 or over.

The township is served by three separate public school districts.  The southeast portion of the township is served by [[North Adams-Jerome Schools]], while the north and west portions of the township is served by [[Jonesville Community Schools]].
