==History==

==Geography==
Montezuma is in south-central Macon County, on the east side of the [[Flint River]]. It is bordered to the west across the river by [[Oglethorpe, Georgia|Oglethorpe]], the Macon [[county seat]]. Several state highways converge in Montezuma. [[Georgia State Route 26|State Route 26]] (Walnut Street) passes through the south side of the city, leading east {{convert|35|mi}} to [[Hawkinsville, Georgia|Hawkinsville]] and west past Oglethorpe {{convert|18|mi}} to [[Ellaville, Georgia|Ellaville]]. [[Georgia State Route 90|State Route 90]] passes through the center of Montezuma, leading southeast {{convert|21|mi}} to [[Vienna, Georgia|Vienna]] and northwest {{convert|20|mi}} to [[Rupert, Georgia|Rupert]]. [[Georgia State Route 49|State Route 49]] also passes through the city center, leading northeast {{convert|13|mi}} to [[Marshallville, Georgia|Marshallville]] and southwest {{convert|11|mi}} to [[Andersonville, Georgia|Andersonville]].

According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the city has a total area of {{convert|4.6|sqmi}}, of which {{convert|0.07|sqmi|2}}, or 1.49%, are water.<ref name="CenPopGazetteer2022"/>
