According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the town has a total area of 36.3&nbsp;square miles (94.0&nbsp;km<sup>2</sup>), of which, 36.2&nbsp;square miles (93.7&nbsp;km<sup>2</sup>) is land and 0.1&nbsp;square miles (0.3&nbsp;km<sup>2</sup>) (0.28%) is water.

As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 1,538 people, 531 households, and 432 families residing in the town. The [[population density]] was 42.5 people per square mile (16.4/km<sup>2</sup>).  There were 558 housing units at an average density of 15.4 per square mile (6.0/km<sup>2</sup>). The racial makeup of the town was 98.70% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.07% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.33% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.72% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.20% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] people of any race were 1.37% of the population.

There were 531 households, out of which 37.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.3% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 5.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.6% were non-families. 16.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.90 and the average family size was 3.26.
