As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 969 people, 414 households, and 279 families residing in the city. The population density was {{convert|385.3|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 459 housing units at an average density of {{convert|182.5|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the city was 97.73% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1.34% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.10% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.10% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.72% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 0.62% of the population.

There were 414 households, out of which 34.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.6% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.4% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.88.

Local schools in Medina, administered by the Gibson County Special School District Board of Trustees in Dyer, Tenn., include South Gibson Elementary School (Kindergarten through 4th grade), South Gibson Middle School (5th grade through 8th grade), and South Gibson High School (9th grade through 12th grade).
