McKey was established on the [[Old Osage and Arkansas Valley Railroad]] near MacKey's Salt Works. The post office existed from March 13, 1891, until July 14, 1928. ==Geography== According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the CDP has a total area of {{convert|5.9|sqmi|km2}}, of which {{convert|5.8|sqmi|km2}} is land and {{convert|0.1|sqmi|km2}} (1.52%) is water. ==Demographics== As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 135 people, 55 households, and 38 families residing in the CDP. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.92. In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 26.7% under the age of 18, 1.5% from 18 to 24, 33.3% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 104.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.1 males. The median income for a household in the CDP was $24,732, and the median income for a family was $41,528. Males had a median income of $26,250 versus $16,250 for females.
