==Geography==
Maysville is located in southeastern Jones County. [[U.S. Route 17 in North Carolina|U.S. Route 17]] passes through the center of town, leading north {{convert|21|mi}} to [[New Bern, North Carolina|New Bern]] and southwest {{convert|15|mi}} to [[Jacksonville, North Carolina|Jacksonville]]. [[North Carolina Highway 58]] leads southeast from Maysville {{convert|20|mi}} to [[Emerald Isle, North Carolina|Emerald Isle]] on the Atlantic coast.

According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the town has a total area of {{convert|1.8|km2|order=flip}}, all  land. It is bordered to the east by [[Croatan National Forest]]. The [[White Oak River]] runs past the southern end of town.

At the 2000 [[census]],<ref name="GR2" /> there were 1,002 people, 389 households and 255 families residing in the town. The population density was {{convert|1,326.8|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 483 housing units at an average density of {{convert|639.6|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the town was 40.82% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 55.89% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.30% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.30% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.30% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 1.40% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.00% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 2.20% of the population.

There were 389 households, of which 34.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.3% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 20.3% had a female householder with no husband present and 34.2% were non-families. 29.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.20.
