'''Mason''' is a town in [[Tipton County, Tennessee|Tipton County]], [[Tennessee]]. The population was 1,609 at the [[2010 U.S. census|2010 census]]. Mason is located along [[U.S. Route 70 in Tennessee|U.S. Route 70]], and is home to a federal detention facility.

==History==
The first rail service in Tipton County was established in December 1855, when the Memphis and Ohio Railroad completed the route from [[Memphis, Tennessee|Memphis]] to [[Nashville, Tennessee|Nashville]], running through what is now the town of Mason.<ref name=TipCtyGuide>{{Citation

[[Trinity Church (Mason, Tennessee)|Trinity Church]] in Mason, built in 1870, was designed by English architect [[James B. Cook]] and is listed on the [[National Register of Historic Places]].

In 2022 the State Government of Tennessee fought to gain financial control over the town government. As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 1,089 people, 210 households, and 153 families residing in the town. The population density was {{convert|848.8|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 226 housing units at an average density of {{convert|176.2|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the town was 40.96% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 51.52% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 1.84% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.73% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 2.11% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 2.85% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 5.23% of the population.

There were 210 households, out of which 41.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.0% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 22.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.7% were non-families. 23.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
