==Geography==
The town of Marengo is located in northwest Ashland County, south of the town of [[White River, Wisconsin|White River]], west of the towns of [[Ashland (town), Wisconsin|Ashland]] and [[Morse, Wisconsin|Morse]], and north of the town of [[Gordon, Ashland County, Wisconsin|Gordon]]. To the west are the towns of [[Grandview, Wisconsin|Grandview]] and [[Lincoln, Bayfield County, Wisconsin|Lincoln]] in [[Bayfield County, Wisconsin|Bayfield County]]. The Brunsweiler River, a tributary of the Marengo River and thence the [[Bad River (Wisconsin)|Bad River]], flows south to north through the town, passing through several small lakes.

According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the town has a total area of {{convert|187.6|sqkm|disp=flip}}, of which {{convert|185.2|sqkm|disp=flip}} is land and {{convert|2.4|sqkm|disp=flip}}, or 1.26%, is water.<ref name="Census 2010"/>

==Demographics==
As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 362 people, 132 households, and 99 families residing in the town. The [[population density]] was 5.1 people per square mile (2.0/km<sup>2</sup>). There were 191 housing units at an average density of 2.7 per square mile (1.0/km<sup>2</sup>). The racial makeup of the town was 96.96% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 2.49% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.28% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]] and 0.28% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]]. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 0.28% of the population. 32.5% were of [[Finnish American|Finnish]], 23.8% [[German American|German]], 6.5% [[Swedish American|Swedish]], 5.9% United States or American, and 5.6% [[Norwegian American|Norwegian]] ancestry according to [[Census 2000]].

There were 132 households, out of which 40.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.1% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.0% were non-families. 21.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 3.19.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 32.0% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 104.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 103.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $33,036, and the median income for a family was $34,861. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $17,188 for females. About 10.7% of families and 14.0% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 14.8% of those under age 18 and 16.7% of those age 65 or over.
