[[U.S. Route 209]] passes through the borough, leading northeast {{convert|29|mi}} to [[Pottsville, Pennsylvania|Pottsville]] and west {{convert|14|mi}} to [[Millersburg, Pennsylvania|Millersburg]] on the [[Susquehanna River]].

The population density was {{convert|1,450.5|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 925 housing units at an average density of {{convert|692.7|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the borough was 97.47% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.36% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.21% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.77% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.15% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.03% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 0.52% of the population.

There were 810 households, out of which 27.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.1% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 9.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.8% were non-families. 29.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39, and the average family size was 2.96.

In the borough, the population was spread out, with 23.3% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 21.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.6 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $33,846, and the median income for a family was $40,909. Males had a median income of $31,774 versus $23,477 for females. About 6.2% of families and 8.3% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 10.4% of those under age 18 and 10.7% of those age 65 or over.
