This is a sizable increase from 2000, when there were 612 people, 228 households, and 163 families living in the town. The population density was {{convert|136.5|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 266 housing units at an average density of {{convert|59.3|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the town was 77.78% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 11.11% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 5.88% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.82% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 4.41% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.63% of the population.

==Transportation==
Luther is located northeast of [[Oklahoma City]] on [[Oklahoma State Highway 66]], formerly  [[U.S. Route 66 in Oklahoma|U.S. 66]]. Like many towns between Oklahoma City and [[Tulsa, Oklahoma|Tulsa]], Luther was bypassed by opening of the [[Turner Turnpike]] in 1953. After decades of planning, a new interchange 11 miles (18&nbsp;km) east of [[Interstate 35 in Oklahoma|I-35]] was opened at Hogback Road south of Luther in 2011, granting more commuter access between Luther and Oklahoma City.
