The population was 1,008 at the 2020 census. It is included as part of the Brownsville–Harlingen–Raymondville and the Matamoros–Brownsville metropolitan areas. The Free Trade International Bridge connects Los Indios with Matamoros, Tamaulipas. ==History== Los Indios is likely named after a Spanish ranch and got its start in the year 1913, following construction of the San Benito and Rio Grande Valley Railway through that territory. Los Indios was incorporated in 1995; as of February 2025, it was the most recent town to be incorporated in Cameron County. ==Geography== Los Indios is located at (26.049729, –97.740140). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.7 sqmi, all land. ==Demographics== ===2020 census=== {| class="wikitable" |+Los Indios racial composition<br /> (NH = Non-Hispanic){{efn|Note: the US Census treats Hispanic/Latino as an ethnic category. Los Indios hosts the only border crossing allowed for use by transmigrantes. Transmigrantes are those bringing cargo overland through Mexico to Central America, as opposed to cargo that has Mexico as its final destination. Most of this cargo being brought overland to Central America is in the form of used vehicles. Guatemala is the most common destination, with some cargo headed for Honduras and other Central American countries. Frequently there will be an early morning line of 200 plus vehicles waiting to cross the border at Los Indios, bound for Central America. The route through Mexico to the Guatemalan border at Ciudad Hidalgo is about 1350 mi, virtually all two lane roads running through the centers of towns with heavy truck traffic during the day—a challenging journey even for an experienced transmigrante. ==Climate== {{Weather box |location = Los Indios, Texas, 1991–2020 normals, extremes 1914–present |single line = Yes |Jan record high F = 83 |Feb record high F = 87 |Mar record high F = 91 |Apr record high F = 94 |May record high F = 96 |Jun record high F = 98 |Jul record high F = 99 |Aug record high F = 99 |Sep record high F = 98 |Oct record high F = 94 |Nov record high F = 90 |Dec record high F = 85 |Jan avg record high F = 70 |Feb avg record high F = 72 |Mar avg record high F = 78 |Apr avg record high F = 83 |May avg record high F = 88 |Jun avg record high F = 94 |Jul avg record high F = 95 |Aug avg record high F = 94 |Sep avg record high F = 89 |Oct avg record high F = 83 |Nov avg record high F = 76 |Dec avg record high F = 70 |year avg record high F = |Jan high F = 70.7 |Feb high F = 74.9 |Mar high F = 79.9 |Apr high F = 85.2 |May high F = 90.0 |Jun high F = 94.2 |Jul high F = 95.4 |Aug high F = 96.5 |Sep high F = 91.8 |Oct high F = 87.1 |Nov high F = 78.8 |Dec high F = 72.0 |year high F = |Jan mean F = |Feb mean F = |Mar mean F = |Apr mean F = |May mean F = |Jun mean F = |Jul mean F = |Aug mean F = |Sep mean F = |Oct mean F = |Nov mean F = |Dec mean F = |year mean F = |Jan low F = 50 |Feb low F = 54 |Mar low F = 60 |Apr low F = 66 |May low F = 70 |Jun low F = 73 |Jul low F = 73 |Aug low F = 73 |Sep low F = 71 |Oct low F = 66 |Nov low F = 58 |Dec low F = 54 |year low F = |Jan avg record low F = 50.4 |Feb avg record low F = 54.2 |Mar avg record low F = 59.4 |Apr avg record low F = 65.4 |May avg record low F = 71.5 |Jun avg record low F = 75.4 |Jul avg record low F = 76.2 |Aug avg record low F = 76.4 |Sep avg record low F = 73.1 |Oct avg record low F = 66.2 |Nov avg record low F = 58.0 |Dec avg record low F = 51.6 |year avg record low F = |Jan record low F = 38 |Feb record low F = 40 |Mar record low F = 45 |Apr record low F = 52 |May record low F = 61 |Jun record low F = 70 |Jul record low F = 73 |Aug record low F = 73 |Sep record low F = 62 |Oct record low F = 52 |Nov record low F = 43 |Dec record low F = 38 |precipitation colour = green |Jan precipitation inch = 0.67 |Feb precipitation inch = 0.39 |Mar precipitation inch = 0.55 |Apr precipitation inch = 0.47 |May precipitation inch = 1.06 |Jun precipitation inch = 1.35 |Jul precipitation inch = 1.57 |Aug precipitation inch = 0.75 |Sep precipitation inch = 1.89 |Oct precipitation inch = 1.38 |Nov precipitation inch = 0.75 |Dec precipitation inch = 0.63 |year precipitation inch = |unit precipitation days = 0.01 in |Jan precipitation days = 9.1 |Feb precipitation days = 6.9 |Mar precipitation days = 7.3 |Apr precipitation days = 8.7 |May precipitation days = 9.0 |Jun precipitation days = 9.6 |Jul precipitation days = 7.3 |Aug precipitation days = 8.8 |Sep precipitation days = 16.1 |Oct precipitation days = 10.0 |Nov precipitation days = 10.1 |Dec precipitation days = 8.4 |Jan snow inch = 0.0 |Feb snow inch = 0.1 |Mar snow inch = 0.0 |Apr snow inch = 0.0 |May snow inch = 0.0 |Jun snow inch = 0.0 |Jul snow inch = 0.0 |Aug snow inch = 0.0 |Sep snow inch = 0.0 |Oct snow inch = 0.0 |Nov snow inch = 0.0 |Dec snow inch = 0.0 |year snow inch = |unit snow days = 0.1 in |Jan snow days = 0.0 |Feb snow days = 0.1 |Mar snow days = 0.0 |Apr snow days = 0.0 |May snow days = 0.0 |Jun snow days = 0.0 |Jul snow days = 0.0 |Aug snow days = 0.0 |Sep snow days = 0.0 |Oct snow days = 0.0 |Nov snow days = 0.0 |Dec snow days = 0.0 |date=April 2025}} ==Education== Los Indios is located in the San Benito Consolidated Independent School District.
