It is bordered on the west by the [[Hudson River]] and on the east by [[Claverack Creek]], a tributary. [[U.S. Route 9 in New York|U.S. Route 9]] passes through the community, leading south into Hudson and north to [[Stockport, New York|Stockport]] and [[Kinderhook (village), New York|Kinderhook]].

The racial makeup of the CDP was 91.52% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 4.69% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.20% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.76% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 1.06% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.77% from two or more races. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females, there were 86.4 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 77.4 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $33,958, and the median income for a family was $46,371. Males had a median income of $34,667 versus $25,000 for females.
