==Geography==
Long View is located in western Catawba County and eastern Burke County. It is bordered to the north and east by the city of [[Hickory, North Carolina|Hickory]], to the west by the town of [[Hildebran, North Carolina|Hildebran]], and to the south by the [[census-designated place]] of [[Mountain View, North Carolina|Mountain View]].

[[U.S. Route 70 in North Carolina|U.S. Route 70]] passes through Long View, leading east into Hickory and west {{convert|18|mi}} to [[Morganton, North Carolina|Morganton]]. [[Interstate 40 in North Carolina|Interstate 40]] crosses the southern part of Long View, with access from Exit 121 (Old Shelby Road/33rd Street).

According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the town has a total area of {{convert|10.2|sqkm|order=flip}}, of which {{convert|0.03|sqkm|order=flip}}, or 0.26%, is water.<ref name="Census 2010"/>

As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2010, there were 4,871 people, 2,067 households, and 1,272 families residing in the town. The population density was {{convert|1,237|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 2,315 housing units at an average density of {{convert|587.6|/mi2|/km2|disp=preunit|units&nbsp;|units|}}. The racial makeup of the town was 74.5% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 11.4% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.4% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 5.0% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 5.7% [[Race (United States Census)|some other race]], and 3.0% from two or more races. There were 2,067 households, out of which 28.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.3% were headed by [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 15.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.5% were non-families. 32.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.9% were someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. In the town, the population was spread out, with 22.3% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 25.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.8% who were 65 years of age or older.
