There were 1,651 housing units at an average density of {{convert|1|/mi2|/km2|disp=preunit|units&nbsp;|units|}}. The racial makeup of the county was 86.47% [[Race (U.S. census)|White]], 0.47% [[Race (U.S. census)|Black]] or [[Race (U.S. census)|African American]], 1.21% [[Race (U.S. census)|Native American]], 0.45% [[Race (U.S. census)|Asian]], 0.05% [[Race (U.S. census)|Pacific Islander]], 9.42% from [[race (U.S. census)|other races]], and 1.93% from two or more races. 13.40% of the population were [[Race (U.S. census)|Hispanic]] or [[Race (U.S. census)|Latino]] of any race. 16.8% were of [[English people|English]], 12.4% [[United States|American]], 11.5% [[Germans|German]] and 8.3% [[Irish people|Irish]] ancestry.

The average household size was 2.77 and the average family size was 3.27.

In the county, the population was spread out, with 30.40% under the age of 18, 9.00% from 18 to 24, 25.50% from 25 to 44, 22.00% from 45 to 64, and 13.10% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 106.50 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 105.80 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $32,484, and the median income for a family was $36,792. Males had a median income of $26,576 versus $20,032 for females.
