==Geography==
Lanagan is located in west-central McDonald County. [[Missouri Route 59]] passes through the town as Main Street, leading north {{convert|3|mi|0}} to [[Anderson, Missouri|Anderson]] and south {{convert|6|mi|0}} to [[Noel, Missouri|Noel]]. [[Pineville, Missouri|Pineville]], the [[county seat]], is {{convert|5|mi|0}} to the east via county roads.

According to the [[U.S. Census Bureau]], Lanagan has a total area of {{convert|0.94|sqmi|sqkm|2}}, all of it recorded as land.<ref name="CenPopGazetteer2023"/> [[Indian Creek (Elk River tributary)|Indian Creek]] passes through the city, with the bulk of the city on the west side of the creek. Indian Creek is a south-flowing tributary of the [[Elk River (Oklahoma)|Elk River]] and part of the [[Neosho River]] watershed.

The racial makeup of the city was 82.3% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.5% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 4.8% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 3.8% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 8.6% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 10.7% of the population.
