Land from [[Pike County, Georgia|Pike County]] and [[Monroe County, Georgia|Monroe County]] was then transferred to create Lamar County.

The western third of Lamar County, west of a line from [[Orchard Hill, Georgia|Orchard Hill]] through [[Milner, Georgia|Milner]] and [[Barnesville, Georgia|Barnesville]], is located in the Upper [[Flint River (Georgia)|Flint River]] sub-basin of the [[ACF River Basin]] (Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin).
