As of the census of 2010, there were 7,121 people, 2,712 households, and 1,749 families residing in the city. The population density was {{convert|871.6|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 2,926 housing units at an average density of {{convert|361.6|/mi2|/km2|disp=preunit|units&nbsp;|units|}}. The racial makeup of the city was 88.6% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 7.5% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.04% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.9% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.01% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.76% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.93% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.07% of the population.

There were 2,712 households, out of which 28.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.9% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 17.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.7% were non-families. 32.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
