Wortham, and incorporated by act of legislature December 14, 1859. All authorities agree that the name is connected with the prominent mound or knob (or knobs) that stand isolated on the prairie near the town. The second part of the name is said to have been suggested by a school teacher, but its origin is uncertain{{Citation needed|date=August 2024}}. Surveyor and educator David Wolfe Eaton derived it from the Latin, interpreting the whole name as "Our Knobs".<ref name=eaton/> The town was removed to its present site when the Pacific Railroad was built.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://shsmo.org/manuscripts/ramsay/ramsay_johnson.html |title=Johnson County Place Names, 1928β1945 |publisher=The State Historical Society of Missouri |access-date=23 October 2016 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160624070939/http://shsmo.org/manuscripts/ramsay/ramsay_johnson.html |archive-date=June 24, 2016 }}</ref> A post office has been in operation in Knob Noster since 1846.<ref>{{cite web | url=http://www.postalhistory.com/postoffices.asp?task=display&state=MO&county=Johnson | title=Post Offices| publisher=Jim Forte Postal History | access-date=23 October 2016}}</ref> ==Geography== Knob Noster is located along [[U.S. Route 50]] approximately nine miles east of [[Warrensburg, Missouri|Warrensburg]].
