==History==
The town was founded in 1860 as "Kent", though this name was soon lengthened to Kentland. The name honors Alexander J. Kentland is the birthplace of famous turn-of-the-century humorist [[George Ade]], author of such plays as ''[[The College Widow (play)|The College Widow]]'', ''Artie'', and ''The Sultan of Sulu''. [[Purdue University]]'s [[Ross–Ade Stadium]], home of the [[Purdue Boilermakers|Boilermakers]] football team, is named for him and fellow Purdue benefactor David Ross. Disgraced Indiana governor [[Warren McCray]], convicted of [[mail fraud]] and forced to resign in 1924, also hailed from Kentland<!-- commenting out this section pending a source. The population density was {{convert|1142.5|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|1}}. There were 782 housing units at an average density of {{convert|511.1|/sqmi|/km2|1}}. The racial makeup of the town was 94.2% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.8% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.1% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.5% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 2.6% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 1.8% from two or more races. There were 793 housing units at an average density of {{convert|544.3|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the town was 98.30% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.11% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.27% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.82% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.49% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 2.96% of the population.
