The region was first settled around 1795. The town was set apart from the [[Fayette, New York|Town of Fayette]] in 1803. Junius was subsequently divided to form new towns: [[Wolcott (town), New York|Wolcott]], in [[Wayne County, New York|Wayne County]] (1807), [[Galen, New York|Galen]] also in Wayne County (1812), [[Seneca Falls (town), New York|Seneca Falls]] (1829), [[Tyre, New York|Tyre]] (1829), and [[Waterloo (town), New York|Waterloo]] (1829).
