== History ==
Jacksonport was once an important [[steamboat]] stop on the White River. During the [[American Civil War|Civil War]] the town served as a transportation hub for [[Confederate States of America|Confederate]] forces.

The racial makeup of the town was 94.47% [[Race (United States Census)|White]], 2.98% [[Race (United States Census)|Black]] or [[Race (United States Census)|African American]], 0.43% [[Race (United States Census)|Native American]], and 2.13% from two or more races.

There were 104 households, out of which 25.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.0% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 9.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.5% were non-families. 29.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.83.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 20.0% under the age of 18, 10.6% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 28.9% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
