{{Short description|Jewish professor in England, 1600s}} {{about||the Dutch Jewish jeweller and diamond merchant|Isaac Sardo Abendana}} {{Use dmy dates|date=March 2025}} {{One source|date=March 2023}}'''Isaac Abendana''' ({{Circa|1640}}β1699) was the younger brother of [[Jacob Abendana]], and became ''[[Hakham#Among the Sephardim|hakam]]'' of the [[Spanish Portuguese Synagogue]] in London after his brother died.<ref>{{cite ODNB|id=37091|title=Abendana, Isaac|first=David S.|last=Katz}}</ref> Abendana moved to England before his brother, in 1662, and taught Hebrew at [[University of Cambridge|Cambridge University]]. He completed an unpublished [[Latin]] translation of the ''[[Mishnah]]'' for the university in 1671. While he was at Cambridge, Abendana sold Hebrew books to the [[Bodleian Library]] of [[Oxford University|Oxford]], and in 1689 he took a teaching position in [[Magdalen College, Oxford|Magdalen College]]. In Oxford, he wrote a series of Jewish [[almanac]]s for Christians, which he later collected and compiled as the ''Discourses on the Ecclesiastical and Civil Polity of the Jews'' (1706).
