The township is in the southeast corner of Midland County and is bordered to the north by the city of [[Midland, Michigan|Midland]], the [[county seat]]. The township is bordered to the east and south by [[Saginaw County, Michigan|Saginaw County]]. According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], Ingersoll Township has a total area of {{convert|36.6|sqmi|km2}}, of which {{convert|0.1|sqmi|1}}, or 0.34%, are water.<ref name="CenPopGazetteer2023"/> The [[Tittabawassee River]] crosses the northeast corner of the township.

As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 3,018 people, 1,067 households, and 837 families residing in the township.  The population density was {{convert|82.9|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  There were 1,107 housing units at an average density of {{convert|30.4|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  The racial makeup of the township was 97.68% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.33% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.13% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.27% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.60% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.99% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.79% of the population.

There were 1,067 households, out of which 36.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.0% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 6.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.5% were non-families. 17.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.  The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.04.

In the township the population was spread out, with 26.1% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who were 65 years of age or older.  The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.1 males.  For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.7 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $49,673, and the median income for a family was $55,050. Males had a median income of $41,458 versus $30,385 for females. About 3.5% of families and 6.1% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 7.3% of those under age 18 and 8.9% of those age 65 or over.
