Hudson is located in central Angelina County adjacent to the western border of [[Lufkin, Texas|Lufkin]], the county seat. [[Texas State Highway 94]] passes through the community, leading southwest {{convert|30|mi}} to [[Groveton, Texas|Groveton]].

As of the [[2020 United States census]], there were 4,849 people, 2,067 households, and 1,381 families residing in the city.

As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 3,792 people, 1,288 households, and 1,013 families residing in the city. The population density was {{convert|827.9|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 1,390 housing units at an average density of {{convert|303.5|/mi2|/km2|disp=preunit|units&nbsp;|units|}}. The racial makeup of the city was 83.91% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 3.96% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.21% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.29% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 9.81% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.82% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 17.06% of the population.
