Howells is in northern Colfax County in east-central Nebraska, three miles east of the junction of highways [[Nebraska Highway 15|15]] and [[Nebraska Highway 91|91]]. The racial makeup of the village was 97.0% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.5% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.4% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.4% [[Race (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.2% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 1.6% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 2.0% of the population.
