The population was 3,684 at the [[2020 United States census|2020 census]]. The village was founded in 1906. The population density was {{convert|3,546.1|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 1,793 housing units at an average density of {{convert|1,630.3|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the village was 70.4% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 13.0% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 2.3% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.8%&nbsp;[[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]] or [[Alaskan Native]], 9.1% from other races, and 4.4% from [[Race (United States Census)|two or more races]]. 18.7% of the population were&nbsp;Hispanic&nbsp;or&nbsp;Latino&nbsp;of any race.

There were 1,647 households, out of which 29.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.9% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 14.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.0% were non-families. 34.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 3.07.

In the village, the population was spread out, with 22.1% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 28.6% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40.2 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.9 males.

There was also a parochial school, Sacred Heart of Jesus School (of the [[Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York]]), that served students in grades pre-kindergarten through eight. Ladycliff Academy existed in the Village of Highland Falls from 1900 to 1961. Ladycliff College existed on the same campus from 1933 to 1981. This campus was located on lands formerly known as Cranston's Hotel, and before that Cozzen's Hotel on the east side of the village overlooking the Hudson River.
