According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the township has a total area of {{convert|290.87|sqmi|km2|2}}, of which {{convert|277.43|sqmi|km2|2}} is land and {{convert|13.44|sqmi|km2|2}} (4.62%) is water.

==Demographics==
At the census of 2000, there were 1,328 people, 563 households, and 404 families residing in the township.<ref name="GR2" /> The population density was {{convert|4.8|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  There were 935 housing units at an average density of {{convert|3.4|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the township was 93.98% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.08% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 3.92% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.38% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.08% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.58% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latinos]] of any race were 0.30% of the population. By the [[2020 United States census|2020 census]], its population declined to 1,305.<ref name=":0" />

In 2000, the median income for a household in the township was $40,156, and the median income for a family was $46,406. Males had a median income of $40,294 versus $24,853 for females.
