Haynes was founded as Gadsden in 1906 along the [[Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad|Milwaukee Road]]'s [[Transcontinental railroad|transcontinental rail line]] known as the Pacific Extension. The name was changed to Haynes in 1907 to honor George B. The racial makeup of the city was 78.3% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]] and 21.7% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]].

There were 13 households, of which 7.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, and 53.8% were non-families. 46.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.77 and the average family size was 2.50.
