==History==
Halesite is named after [[Nathan Hale]], a captain and spy in the [[Continental Army]] during the [[American Revolutionary War]] who arrived at Long Island at Huntington Harbor (at the site now named Halesite) just prior to his capture and execution.<ref>

From the mid-19th century until about the time of [[World War I]], Halesite was served by a [[Huntington Railroad|trolley line]] which brought passengers from [[Amityville, New York|Amityville]] through Downtown [[Huntington (CDP), New York|Huntington]] to the end of New York Avenue, at the northwest end of Halesite.<ref name=":0">{{Cite web |title=Long Island Index: Interactive Map |url=http://www.longislandindexmaps.org/ |access-date=2022-09-09 |website=www.longislandindexmaps.org}}</ref> Tourists were able to enjoy Halesite Park, which commands a view of Huntington Harbor.

The population density was {{convert|2,991.9|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 1,049 housing units at an average density of {{convert|1,215.6|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the CDP was 95.27% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1.59% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.08% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.93% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.04% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.77% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.32% from two or more races. The area has been protected by the Halesite Fire Department since 1901.<ref name=":0" /> Halesite is also served by a United States Post Office branch, although its zip code is the same as that of the hamlet of Huntington (11743). Huntington Hospital sits along the southern boundary of Halesite.
