Guthrie Center was [[plat]]ted in 1856. It was named for Capt. [[Edwin B. The [[Race and ethnicity in the United States census|racial]] makeup of the city was 91.8% [[White Americans|White]], 0.9% [[African Americans|Black or African American]], 0.1% [[Native Americans in the United States|Native American]], 0.8% [[Asian Americans|Asian]], 0.2% [[Pacific Islander Americans|Pacific Islander]], 2.4% from other races and 3.7% from two or more races.
