According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the town has a total area of 73.3&nbsp;square miles (189.9&nbsp;km<sup>2</sup>), of which, 73.1&nbsp;square miles (189.4&nbsp;km<sup>2</sup>) of it is land and 0.2&nbsp;square miles (0.5&nbsp;km<sup>2</sup>) of it (0.27%) is water.

==Demographics==
As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 1,729 people, 633 households, and 496 families residing in the town. The population density was {{convert|23.6|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 676 housing units at an average density of {{convert|9.2|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the town was 99.13% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.35% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.06% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.06% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.12% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.29% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 0.35% of the population.

There were 633 households, out of which 34.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.8% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 5.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.5% were non-families. 18.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
