Grosse Pointe Shores was incorporated as a village in 1911 and was part of [[Grosse Pointe Township, Michigan|Grosse Pointe Township]] in Wayne County and [[Lake Township, Macomb County, Michigan|Lake Township]] in Macomb County.  Both townships became defunct with the village incorporated as a city in 2009.  It is a northeastern suburb of [[Metro Detroit]] and is the northernmost city included into the [[Grosse Pointe]] area, and the only one of the five Grosse Pointes to not border the city of [[Detroit]].  Located along the shores of [[Lake St. Clair]], the city is well known as the location of the [[Edsel and Eleanor Ford House]] and the [[Grosse Pointe Yacht Club]].

Grosse Pointe Shores was incorporated as a village in 1911. The village incorporated as a city in 2009. In 2011, the city government stated that it was considering trying to move all of the city into Macomb County, since Macomb has lower taxes than Wayne.<ref>Williams, Candice. == Geography ==
Grosse Pointe Shores is in the northeast corner of Wayne County and the southeast corner of Macomb County, with the majority of its land area in Wayne County. The city limits extend east to the center of Lake St. Clair, where it follows the [[Canada–United States border|Canadian border]]. It is bordered to the south by [[Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan|Grosse Pointe Farms]] and to the west by [[Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan|Grosse Pointe Woods]], both in Wayne County, and to the northwest by [[St. Clair Shores, Michigan|St. Clair Shores]] in Macomb County. According to the [[U.S. Census Bureau]], the city has a total area of {{convert|19.08|sqmi|sqkm|2}}, of which {{convert|1.11|sqmi|sqkm|2}} are land and {{convert|17.97|sqmi|sqkm|2}}, or 94.17%, are water (part of Lake St. Clair).

The city is {{convert|12|mi}} northeast of [[downtown Detroit]] and the same distance south of [[Mount Clemens, Michigan|Mount Clemens]], the Macomb [[county seat]].

The [[population density]] was {{convert|2615.7|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|1}}. There were 1,350 housing units at an average density of {{convert|1173.9|/sqmi|/km2|1}}. The racial makeup of the city was 92.8% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1.9% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.3% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 3.8% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.2% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 1.0% from two or more races.
