On October 31, 1882, Wickware Post Office was opened.<ref name=gnis>Ellis, David M. Michigan Postal History, The Post Offices 1805-1986. 12-Dec-1993. via {{gnis|2554183|Wickware Post Office (historical)}}</ref> Greenleaf Post Office began operations on March 6, 1886 at New Greenleaf.<ref name=gnis0>Ellis, David M. According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the township has a total area of {{convert|35.9|sqmi|km2}}, of which {{convert|35.9|sqmi|km2}} is land and 0.03% is water.

==Demographics==
As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 804 people, 276 households, and 218 families residing in the township.  The population density was {{convert|22.4|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  There were 317 housing units at an average density of {{convert|8.8|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  The racial makeup of the township was 98.63% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.37% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.12% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.87% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.00% of the population.

There were 276 households, out of which 38.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.7% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 4.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.7% were non-families. 18.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.  The average household size was 2.89 and the average family size was 3.27.

In the township the population was spread out, with 29.7% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who were 65 years of age or older.  The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 110.5 males.  For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.8 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $34,643, and the median income for a family was $37,679. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $22,321 for females. The [[per capita income]] for the township was $14,067.  About 11.7% of families and 13.9% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 19.0% of those under age 18 and 11.7% of those age 65 or over.
