It is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 21,247 at the 2020 census, up from 20,402 at the 2010 census. The ZIP codes are 95746 and 95661. Granite Bay is a primarily residential suburb of Sacramento and is located just east of Roseville and west of Folsom Lake. == Geography == Granite Bay is located at (38.748504, -121.179793). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 21.6 sqmi, of which, 21.5 sqmi of it is land and 0.04 sqmi of it (0.20 percent) is water. The place name, Granite Bay, is derived from a bay in Folsom Lake, a reservoir on the east side of the town created in 1955. The entire town is underlain by granodiorite of the Penryn Pluton of Cretaceous age, hence the geological basis for the place name. ==Climate== Granite Bay has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate (Köppen climate classification Csa) that is characterized by cool, wet winters and hot, dry summers (Köppen climate classification Csa). ==Cultural resources== The history of Granite Bay started with the Maidu Indians, and it continued when miners, farmers, and others seeking to do business came during the Gold Rush to strike a fortune. The Granite Bay area was officially recognized on July 28, 1987 by the Board of Supervisors. The Nisenan, also known as the Southern Maidu, were one of three Maiduan-speaking tribes in the northern half of the Sacramento Valley. The Granite Bay area is located in the ethnographic territory of the Nisenan. The Nisenan lived along the American, Yuba, and Bear Rivers, as well as the Feather River, to which their territory extended. {{Weather box|width=1000px| |location = Granite Bay, California |single line = Y |Jan record high F = 75 |Feb record high F = 78 |Mar record high F = 86 |Apr record high F = 98 |May record high F = 107 |Jun record high F = 110 |Jul record high F = 115 |Aug record high F = 110 |Sep record high F = 111 |Oct record high F = 102 |Nov record high F = 87 |Dec record high F = 76 |Jan high F = 53 |Feb high F = 60 |Mar high F = 64 |Apr high F = 71 |May high F = 80 |Jun high F = 88 |Jul high F = 94 |Aug high F = 92 |Sep high F = 87 |Oct high F = 77 |Nov high F = 63 |Dec high F = 54 |Jan mean F = 46 |Feb mean F = 51 |Mar mean F = 54 |Apr mean F = 60 |May mean F = 66 |Jun mean F = 73 |Jul mean F = 78 |Aug mean F = 76 |Sep mean F = 73 |Oct mean F = 65 |Nov mean F = 54 |Dec mean F = 47 |Jan low F = 39 |Feb low F = 42 |Mar low F = 44 |Apr low F = 48 |May low F = 53 |Jun low F = 58 |Jul low F = 61 |Aug low F = 61 |Sep low F = 58 |Oct low F = 52 |Nov low F = 44 |Dec low F = 39 |Jan record low F = 21 |Feb record low F = 23 |Mar record low F = 27 |Apr record low F = 33 |May record low F = 36 |Jun record low F = 43 |Jul record low F = 48 |Aug record low F = 46 |Sep record low F = 41 |Oct record low F = 31 |Nov record low F = 27 |Dec record low F = 16 |Jan precipitation inch = 3.98 |Feb precipitation inch = 3.46 |Mar precipitation inch = 3.07 |Apr precipitation inch = 1.58 |May precipitation inch = 0.58 |Jun precipitation inch = 0.12 |Jul precipitation inch = 0.04 |Aug precipitation inch = 0.06 |Sep precipitation inch = 0.35 |Oct precipitation inch = 1.08 |Nov precipitation inch = 2.80 |Dec precipitation inch = 3.33 |year precipitation inch = |source 1 = http://www.myforecast.com/bin/climate.m?city=516009&metric=false |date=June 2015 }} ==Demographics== ===2010=== At the 2010 census Granite Bay had a population of 20,402.
