==History==
During the American Revolution, it was known as Aikentown, named after tavern owner Matthew Aiken. The population density was {{convert|1,297.6|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  There were 4,629 housing units at an average density of {{convert|467.8|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  The racial makeup of the CDP was 77.98% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 17.02% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.22% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 2.33% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.02% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 1.06% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.37% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 3.01% of the population.

There were 4,517 households, out of which 44.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.9% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 10.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.0% were non-families. 16.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 2.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.  The average household size was 2.84 and the average family size was 3.22.

In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 29.3% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 37.9% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 4.2% who were 65 years of age or older.  The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females, there were 98.0 males.  For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.2 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $61,707, and the median income for a family was $67,252. Males had a median income of $42,788 versus $33,183 for females. About 2.5% of families and 3.9% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 5.2% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
