The municipality covered an area of {{convert|{{Dutch municipality total area|Giessenlanden}}|km2|abbr=on}} of which {{convert|{{Dutch municipality water area|Giessenlanden}}|km2|abbr=on}} is water, and had a population of {{formatnum:{{Dutch municipality population|Giessenlanden}}}} as of {{YEAR|{{Dutch municipality population|popbaseyear}}}}. The municipality included communities of [[Arkel]], [[Giessen-Oudekerk]], [[Giessenburg]], [[Hoogblokland]], [[Hoornaar]], [[Noordeloos]] and [[Schelluinen]].
