The first area of permanent settlement in the county, it was incorporated {{Time ago|1889}} on October 23, 1889. It is known for its grain production. The town is on the edge of Latah County and many of the rural residents live in Nez Perce county. ==Geography==
Genesee is located in the [[Palouse]] region, it is approximately {{convert|14|mi|km}} south of [[Moscow, Idaho|Moscow]], about halfway to [[Lewiston, Idaho|Lewiston]].  The city center is just east of [[U.S. Route 95 in Idaho|US-95]], and just north of the [[Nez Perce County, Idaho|Nez Perce County]] line in Sections 13 and 14 of Township 37 North, Range 5 West.

The [[population density]] was {{convert|1447.0|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|1}}. There were 400 housing units at an average density of {{convert|606.1|/sqmi|/km2|1}}. The racial makeup of the city was 96.1% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.2% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.7% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.2% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 2.7% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.0% of the population.

There were 370 households, of which 35.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.8% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 7.0% had a female householder with no husband present, 2.7% had a male householder with no wife present, and 29.5% were non-families. 23.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.09.

The racial makeup of the city was 96.83% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.11% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.85% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.21% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.21% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.80% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.06% of the population.

In the city, the population was spread out, with 30.5% under the age of 18, 4.5% from 18 to 24, 33.5% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 7.6% who were 65 years of age or older.  The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females, there were 104.3 males.  For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $42,167, and the median income for a family was $47,794. Males had a median income of $32,500 versus $25,865 for females. About 4.4% of families and 6.2% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 3.8% of those under age 18 and 14.1% of those age 65 or over.

Several scenes from the [[1991 in film|1991]] movie ''[[Talent for the Game]]'' were filmed in Genesee in the summer of 1990.
