The [[Race and ethnicity in the United States census|racial]] makeup of the city was 94.5% [[White Americans|White]], 0.9% [[African Americans|Black or African American]], 0.1% [[Native Americans in the United States|Native American]], 0.0% [[Asian Americans|Asian]], 0.1% [[Pacific Islander Americans|Pacific Islander]], 2.4% from other races and 2.0% from two or more races. Garnavillo is the headquarter of Pattison sand company, which has been working a sand mine of the [[St. Peter Sandstone]] since 1983.
