Fountain Green was originally called "Uintah Springs", and under the latter name settlement was made in 1859.<ref name="History">{{cite book | url=https://books.google.com/books?id=L7M3AQAAIAAJ&pg=RA1-PA127 | title=The Utah Genealogical and Historical Magazine, Volumes 9-10 | year=1918 | page=127}}</ref> A post office called Fountain Green has been in operation since 1860.<ref>{{cite web | url=https://www.postalhistory.com/postoffices.asp?task=display&state=UT&county=Sanpete| title=Post Offices | accessdate=22 January 2018}}</ref>  The present name is for springs and green pastures near the original town site.<ref name="History" />

==Demographics==
As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2010, there were 1071 people and 370 households, 88.4% of which were occupied housing units. The [[population density]] was 705 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was 89.07% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.10% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.60% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], and 1.73% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]]. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 8.50% of the population.

==Education==
Fountain Green is located in the [[North Sanpete School District]] and contains an elementary school. Students attend North Sanpete Middle School in [[Moroni, Utah|Moroni]] and [[North Sanpete High School]] in [[Mount Pleasant, Utah|Mount Pleasant]].

==Events==
The annual city celebration is Lamb Day each July, in recognition of the local sheep ranching industry.  The event includes a play, [[mutton busting]], carnival, softball games, a fun run, large number of lambs cooked in an open pit, and a parade down State Street.
