There were 6,951 households, out of which 23.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.3% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 14.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.4% were non-families. 31.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.4 and the average family size was 3.0. In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 25.4% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.7 males. The median income for a household in the CDP was $37,092, and the median income for a family was $31,786. Males had a median income of $26,235 versus $21,972 for females. About 15.2% of families and 17.1% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 24.2% of those under age 18 and 9.8% of those age 65 or over. In 2010 Flowing Wells had a population of 16,419.
