Since 2000, the territorial limits of Florence have grown by 8%. As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2009, the population was 1,148. In 2000, there were 1,054 people, 381 households, and 275 families residing in the city. The population density was {{convert|1,300.1|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 410 housing units at an average density of {{convert|505.7|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the city was 89.28% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.85% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 1.04% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.28% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 6.74% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.80% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 19.92% of the population.

There were 381 households, out of which 38.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.4% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 12.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.6% were non-families. 23.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.77 and the average family size was 3.29.

The median income for a household in the city was $36,250, and the median income for a family was $42,059. Males had a median income of $30,500 versus $23,750 for females.
