Fincastle was incorporated on January 25, 1974. According to the city's website, the name "is a historical relic from the formation of [[Kentucky County, Virginia]]. ==Geography==
Fincastle is located in northeastern Jefferson County. It is {{convert|15|mi}} northeast of [[downtown Louisville]] and {{convert|2|mi|0}} southwest of [[Oldham County, Kentucky|Oldham County]].

The population density was {{convert|3,890.9|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 301 housing units at an average density of {{convert|1,419.6|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the city was 62.18% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 30.42% [[African American (U.S. Census)|Black]] or [[Race (United States Census)|African American]], 0.61% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 2.18% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.73% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 3.88% from two or more races. There were 295 households, out of which 46.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.1% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 17.6% were non-families. 13.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 2.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size was 3.11.

In the city, the population was spread out, with 30.4% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 33.9% from 25 to 44, 25.7% from 45 to 64, and 4.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females, there were 102.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $66,477, and the median income for a family was $66,250. Males had a median income of $46,389 versus $30,446 for females. Fincastle has a legislative body composed of a Mayor and four Commissioners.

The city is presided over by Mayor John Bell. Stacey Ricci, Gene Harris, Kenneth Howson and Jerry Gregory serve as City Commissioners. The City Clerk is Jean Reid.
