The land on which Fair Oaks Ranch rests was acquired in the 1930s by Ralph Fair Sr., who worked in the oil industry and owned cattle and racehorses. Fair Oaks Ranch is located on both sides of [[Cibolo Creek]], {{convert|27|mi}} northwest of downtown San Antonio and {{convert|8|mi|0}} southeast of [[Boerne, Texas|Boerne]]. The city limits extend southwest to touch [[Interstate 10 in Texas|Interstate 10]] at Exit 546.

The population density was {{convert|656.4|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 1,731 housing units at an average density of {{convert|242.0|/mi2|/km2|disp=preunit|units&nbsp;|units|}}. The racial makeup of the city was 96.38% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.38% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.43% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.62% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.06% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 1.04% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.09% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 7.90% of the population.
